Suunto has won a coveted red dot product design award 2012 in the Watches and Jewellery category for the elegant ocean-inspired lines of the Suunto D9tx, the first wristop trimix dive computer. International judges singled out the Suunto D9tx out of thousands of products for its innovation, functionality and quality. The red dot award is one of the most appreciated seals of quality for outstanding product designs.
The Suunto D9tx is designed with the clarity and simplicity for which Suunto is renowned. Its titanium bracelet is inspired by the wavy surface of the ocean; the frame’s side pieces are shaped like the outline of a dolphin’s nose while the scratch resistant sapphire glass is the ideal material for diving.
CEO and President of Suunto, Mikko Moilanen, comments: “We’re thrilled and honored to win this prestigious award. We take great pride in producing premium dive computers that meet the high demands of both style and function. The Suunto D9tx is an elegant watch yet also an extremely advanced dive computer that performs thousands of complex calculations to allow technical divers to explore the depths for longer.”
Professor Dr. Peter Zec, founder and CEO of the red dot design award, comments: “The experts thoroughly examined, tested and evaluated each individual entry applying the highest standards. Suunto not only demonstrated an extraordinary design quality but also showed that design is an integral part of innovative product solutions.”
The design award is the latest accolade for Suunto, the Finnish company that has been making dive computers, instruments and outdoor sports watches since 1936. Earlier this year Suunto was voted the best dive computer brand by readers of Tauchen magazine, one of Germany's largest diving magazines. The Suunto D9tx also received the DIVER Award 2011 for Product of the Year, based on a readers’ poll by British DIVER Magazine.
