Arc'teryx Alpine Academy

Arc'teryx Alpine Academy

2 července 2014

Hanging out in the mountains with some of alpinism's top pros, learning new skills, making new friends. This was the Arc'teryx Alpine Academy, a three-day mountain fest that took place last month in Chamonix, France.

The annual event offers clinics on essential mountaineering skills such as navigation, crevasse rescue, alpine photography and technical climbing, and attracts seasoned alpinists to novices alike. With over 400 participants from over 20 countries in attendance – as well as 60 guides – the three-day summit is a unique get-together of mountain sports enthusiasts. And popular – clinics sold out in 10 days!

“What I find amazing about these workshops is that the learning is made through sharing, ” says Isabelle Santoire, mountain guide & Arc’teryx athlete. “Participants form friendships and really help each other out, it goes much further than just training, there is a real desire to learn.”

The Academy, now in its third year takes place in Chamonix, at the base of Mt Blanc, one of the world's great alpine playgrounds. Suunto was once again a partner: the navigation clinic saw students learning how to navigate using the altimeter on the Suunto Ambit2 and how to use the storm alarm to predict bad weather.

Weren't able to attend the course? Don't worry we'll give a roundup of the best navigation tips from the course for your Suunto Ambit later this month.
