November’s calendar takes you for a run with Kilian Jornet

29.10.2010

The November’s calendar takes us to in north-eastern Tanzania, the home territory of ruggedly beautiful Mount Kilimanjaro. At 5,895 m (19,340 ft), Kilimanjaro is the tallest peak in Africa and a popular trekking destination.

Suunto CalendarSpanish ultra runner and Suunto Ambassador Kilian Jornet raced up Mount Kilimanjaro in record time: from base camp to Uhuru Peak and back in just 7 hours and 14 minutes. The round-trip is about 53 km (32.9 miles) and for most climbers it takes about seven days to reach the top.

Starting his run from Umbwe Gate at 7:15 a.m., Kilian arrived at the summit in 5 hours, 23 minutes, and 50 seconds. He spent about ten minutes at the top, and then delivered a startling 1:41 performance in the descent, 13,960 vertical feet back to the finish.
