A start-up company called Stryd launched a Kickstarter campaign this week to fund the world’s first wearable power meter for runners.
Cyclists have long been using power meters to guide and target their training more efficiently. Soon power will be available to runners as well.
“The data runners use in training hasn’t changed much in 30 years. There has never been an accurate or easy way to show training intensity and efficiency, and athletes and coaches have repeatedly told us that holds them back,” said Robert Dick, Ph.D. and CEO of Stryd. “Our goal was to provide one number that can consistently help anyone run better, and today Stryd does exactly that.
Stryd – inside the technology
Stryd is compatible with your Ambit
Stryd is a small device that you wear on your waist. It uses first-of-its-kind sensing technology to calculate run power, measured in watts. With power it is possible to analyze every key aspect of running from performance and running form to efficiency. Power also helps pace running in challenging terrain and in variable conditions.
Stryd power meter is fully compatible with Suunto Ambit2 and Ambit3 watches. To get started with a Stryd power meter add a pod to search (“Power pod”) for your Ambit and a power data field in the watch's running mode.
