Suunto expands its operations in Finland and opens a Mobile Competence Center in Tampere

Suunto strengthens its mobile expertise by opening a new Competence Center in Tampere.

In recent years, mobile applications’ role as part of Suunto's product and service offering has grown rapidly as the use of such applications has increased. Suunto starts iOS and Android talent recruitment for the new center immediately.

"Mobile applications and solutions are an important part of Suunto's future customer experience, and opening the new unit contributes to this development," says Mikko Moilanen, Suunto’s President. "The Suunto Movescount App for iPhone and Android is already a part of the Ambit3 product family, and the overall role of applications as a part of our products and services will certainly grow in the future."

For Suunto customers, the reform will mean faster developing mobile applications and services that will further improve the user experience. New digital services, including mobile applications, will be designed and developed in collaboration with Amer Sports other digital services and applications.

Sami Männistö started as Head of the Mobile Competence Center on August 10, strengthening the team with his long experience in international software development and mobile and web service start-ups.

"We will immediately start recruiting both Android and iOS experts to the new unit, and during this autumn the aim is to increase the size of the unit to about ten persons," says Sami Männistö about the recruitment needs. "Tampere is an excellent location for us. Suunto's parent company, Amer Sports, recently acquired the sports service company Sports Tracker, and a part of the Sports Tracker team is already located here. In addition, there’s good talent in the Tampere area considering the recruitment needs of the unit".

The Mobile Competence Center is located in the Technopolis center in Hervanta, Tampere.
