How to customize Suunto Spartan’s sport modes

20 diciembre 2016

With 80 sport modes pre-installed in the watch, Suunto Spartan Ultra and Suunto Spartan Sport watches are ready to go for nearly any kind of activity. You also have the ability to create your own, custom sport modes, to see exactly the metrics that matter most to you.

New sport modes can be created for any Suunto Movescount activity – and you are not limited to just one per sport: Several new modes can be created for each activity. This is useful if you want to see different metrics during an interval workout and a long run, for example. Up to 19 sport modes can be synced to your Spartan at one time.

Before you start creating the sport modes, ensure that you have the latest software installed in your watch. Connect it to your computer with its USB cable. Suuntolink will prompt for an update if one is available. The minimum software requirement for sport mode customization is version 1.6.10. Please also confirm that your SuuntoLink version is 2.1.50 or later.

Creating custom sport modes

To create a custom sport mode, go to your account on movescount.com and click ‘WATCHES’. Select your Spartan and under ‘SPORT MODES’ click ‘CREATE NEW SPORT MODE’.

Each new customized sport mode can be named and, when synced, will show up on the sport mode ‘short-list’ on the watch when you begin your exercise on your Spartan.

Choose the metrics and sport mode settings

You can modify and use different display layouts with different numbers of data fields and also add lap tables and interval displays to your custom sport modes. If the sport mode has GPS in use, the breadcrumb display is also available as a fourth screen during the exercise.

There is a long list of variables, over 30 of them, that you can use for your customized displays. Some of them aren’t currently available in the standard sport modes (altitude, EPOC, PTE, temperature and time of day).

Customize the sport mode settings, too

In addition to the screens, you can edit settings like GPS accuracy, recording interval, auto-lap, auto-pause and PODs to search, for the sport modes.

After you have created your own sport mode, make sure you have selected to use the sport mode in your watch and sync the watch with Movescount. If your watch was already connected to your computer, un-plug it and plug it in again to activate the sync with the latest changes.
