On the final day of the Vertical Blue 2009 competition, Will Trubridge broke his own constant weight no fins (CNF) category record with an 88m dive, adding two meters onto his previous mark, which was set a year earlier. CNF is considered to be one of the hardest of the freediving disciplines as it relies on the diver's muscle strength alone for propulsion.
The 28-year-old's single breath dive took just 3min 30sec. Will, a freediver of six years had some worries before going for the record after a failed attempt six days earlier. On that occasion he reached 88m, but upon returning to the surface blacked out and was subsequently disqualified.

"I had a lot of anxiety about the dive when I entered the water for another attempt at this record this morning, but somehow I managed to remain calm and finished the dive completely lucid," said Will. "I've trained hard for this record and the results speak for themselves - I've done it!"
Additionally, Will previously held the world record in Free Immersion (FIM) discipline with a depth of 108m and a dive time of 3:51. This record was set during the Vertical Blue 2008 competition. It was broken by Herbert Nitsch at Vertical Blue 2009, when he descended 109 m below the water surface.
Check out also Will's video on Suunto TV where he talks about his life under the surface and some his record breaking attempts, as well as tells why he has chosen Suunto as his diving product.
