What is your Suunto experience?
I have been using the Suunto t6 for four years now, so I am a loyal first generation user of Suunto heart rate monitors. From the beginning, the most important thing, besides the disturbance free transmission - for me was the clear display: big numbers, easy to read with the flexibility to choose the information I wanted to see at any given moment.
How do you utilize Suunto PODs and {Suunto Training Manager} software in your training?
Of course, I find the GPS POD ideal for cross-country skiing. The distance measurement is really accurate, and useful if I take detours or short cuts on a defined route. It is also fun to analyze the maximum speed during a fast downhill section. But I always follow the HR as a training instrument and I am not focused on increasing the average speed.
The Suunto Software heart rate variation analysis provides me with a rare insight into my training progress. There is a depth of knowledge available, but I focus mainly on HR, altitude and distance for the single workouts and use the easy-to-read summary function to provide me with an overview of my different training phases.
It is a huge advantage that I can use my Suunto for other sports like running and cycling. I do most of my running on unmarked footpath in the forest. The Foot Pod tells me the distance of the lap and combined with the altitude measurement makes it easy to compare different routes.
In the summer months I mount the t6 on my handlebars when I am out cycling on the road. The t6 really is a versatile training companion, and combined with the POD network, provides me with all the information that I need to succeed at the highest level.
