Suunto Yachting team 10th in Marseille
The European Melges circuit started during the Easter holidays in Marseille, France with the annual SNIM regatta. The SNIM regatta has become one of the most important regattas for the Melges 24 class in Europe. So the show up of all the top European teams was good. Everybody wants to be there to see in what form everybody else are. The racing conditions where excellent with different weather conditions every day. Eleven races where sailed in conditions from cold winter winds to nice spring sun and shorts. Winner was P&P Sailing team with Ligot Philippe from France.

Team Suunto came 10th in the final results. We had a good regatta with most scores in the top 10 except a few dips. In racing anything can happen as did for us in race 3 we missed dropping from 6th place to 53rd in 5 minutes when we where caught in a fishing net. New experience that was. SNIM showed us that we are in okay form this early in the season.

From year to year the Melges 24 class seems to attract more and more top sailors from around the world, many of whom are professional sailors. This shows as Team Suunto got a special award at the price giving for the Best-owner-driven team as well as best amateurs at 10th! The racing is very competitive and makes every race a real battle.

Suunto Yachting team aims for a top spot at the Melges 24 World Championships in Marstrand, Sweden - begins on August 9th with a special aim to defending last year's European ranking win.

Robert Scheidt conquers the world title
Once again Robert Scheidt showed the world why he is considered the most important Brazilian sportsman of our time and one of the most important names of the world sailing's history. #1 of the world rank and owner of two Olympic medals, gold in Atlanta/96 and silver in Sidney/2000, Robert became last Wednesday in Bodrum Turkey, the first Brazilian ever to become seven times world champion of an Olympic sport.

"I couldn't be happier about this title. I still didn't realize it but if feels indescribable." "Loosing the title last year in Cadiz was of great importance for this year's success. Reconquering the title feels even better that defending it." Says Robert.

The seven titles won this year - Brazilian National Championship, Brazilian South East Championship, South American Championship, Cricket Match Race, Buzios Pre-Olympic, French Pre-Olympic in Hyères, and World Championship - endorse Robert Scheidt as Brazil's biggest hope for an Olympic gold medal.
