Playing with Suunto G3
|
It was my first round this summer. We were playing on Tawast Golf Course near Helsinki city. It was a statistical miracle! It was the 7th of May 2004, and the weather was exceptionally warm. My first round in Finland and I was wearing only a t-shirt and shorts.
In this case the weather wasn´t the only statistically odd thing. I also had my brand new Suunto G3 on my wrist. An electronic real-time scorecard, with stat tracker, handicap calculation etc.
The first hole, Par-4, 327 meters I had a pretty good backwind and strong feeling. I was playing with my friend Jussi. We both took our drivers! I had honour - solid swing and my ball landed on the fairway. I got my first FIR (fairways in regulation).
After that my second shot was an easy gap wedge - smooth impact and ball was 5 meters (downside) from the flag. I marked GIR (greens in regulation), two putts and an easy par!

We played fast. After 17 holes my Suunto G3 told me that we had really played fast - the game time was 2:50 after 17 holes. Suunto G3 also showed our score and game situation. We were playing match play and we were EVEN. Last hole was Par-5 (hcp index 1). In fact we were playing like a scratch because we had almost the same handicap...
After 3 shots Jussi was on the green. I was in a deep green bunker. Surprise, surprise, I made a sand save, and Jussi made two putts. Suunto G3 told us: the game was tied. We went straight to the clubhouse (without sudden death) and replayed our close-run game all over again with my Suunto G3.
