Everybody Happily Over the Finish Line

The product developers at Suunto are always on the move. We are interested in all kinds of sport and are always keen on trying something new. The playground can be any of the elements, water, land or air. In other words anywhere man has ever been, excluding space.
Many technical sports such as diving, climbing and paragliding are everyday life for us. Suunto has been strong also in many team sports from floorball to football. Many at Suunto are active in endurance sport as well, some even compete in top level e.g. in the ironman contest. Maybe that's why "endurance" got the people so enthusiastic.

The idea about a new challenge spred in the product development department during winter. Some of us had already run a full marathon and it wasn't so difficult to convince the first timers either. On top of that there was the ongoing t6-project, and the testing of the instrument would support the training and vice versa. An idea that was exactly meant to us.
We didn't choose the place until summer so that we would have enough time to exercise. The idea about a long weekend got most votes and so we chose Amsterdam as the date was most suitable and we were all interested in the city as well.

Ten months is a long period of practise for a sport enthusiast. Common, slow training sessions became familiar as well as the terrain around Suunto Headquarters. We noticed, how individual the HR zones of different people are and how well you could monitor the training load with the EPOC curve.
In the crucial moment everything happens fast. The Olympic Stadium of 1928 is full of runners and spectators. The starting shot and the runners begin their challenge in an even thread that grows longer. The streets of Amsterdam and the surroundings of the Amstel River pass us by and we have time to admire the environment, too. All thirteen of us reached the finish line, all though approximately two hours later than the fastest contestants. Still, everyone is a winner, as the old saying goes.

During the years everybody learns to know his body. This is of utmost importance but the Suunto t6 provides fine additional features to the training. In addition to monitoring the heart rate every one of us got enthusiastic about keeping track of the distance and speed with the Foot Pod. The correct speed to reach the desired goal is really easy to monitor directly with the wrist unit. Everyone who wanted to break the for us magical four-hour limit in Amsterdam, was able to do this precisely by monitoring the speed per hour continuously.
The after play in the product development increased widely among us. The values in the t-manager, curves and own feelings were the topics of many pleasant coffee break conversations at work, as well as well experienced the international atmosphere in Amsterdam. With these experiences the long working days are easier to stand and you are ready for new challenges and testing your own limits further. Where do we meet the next time...and which instrument do we have on our wrists...
