Suunto t6 Helping Ice Hockey Team

The Finnish national ice hockey team played its opening match in the World Championships in April, with the help of the Suunto t6 heart rate monitor.

The Suunto t6 is an innovative sports instrument that enables the accurate analysis of training effectiveness. It is the national squad's aim to use the Suunto t6 to measure the relationship between physical stress and recovery, in order to avoid player fatigue during the intense tournament. Jyväskylä-based Firstbeat Technologies' Wellness Analysis software will be used to measure recovery rates.

Background data for the following season will also be compiled during the World Championships, held in Austria. National team players will spend 70-80 days of the 2005-2006 season in training camps and on tour, in addition to their club schedule.

"Allowing for adequate recovery during heavy tournaments and in training camps will prove critical, especially next season which includes both the World Championships and the Olympic Games," stresses national team physician, Markku Tuominen. "Monitoring and reacting to individual recovery needs will help keep the team in peak condition throughout the season."

Jari Kurri gives us the coaching perspective: "Players experience wear and tear in different ways during a tournament - some more, some less. Suunto t6 will enable us to plan training between matches with more precision and more personally than before. This wristop computer provides objective data to supplement the player's subjective impressions."
