Which Suunto products are you using?

Suunto Quest, t6c Red Arrow, Foot POD, Road Bike POD and Comfort Belt.

What’s the best thing about your Suunto?

“I love being able to see the Training Effect as I’m running.

“I am using the t6c Red Arrow for every training session. It is the first time I have been able to analyse heart rate versus altitude and when I am running on the hills it tells me if I am training too hard, am too tired, etc."

“Using movescount.com I can quickly gauge how my training is progressing and so I can make the necessary adjustments. I love the movescount.com because it is quick and easy to use. I can spend more time running rather than sitting in front of a computer! I can look at weekly mileage and make decisions about my training based on the information. That is what technology should be about!"

EPOC once you trust it, really works in giving a good idea of when you are having a rest day and what it means to be training hard or sometimes too hard.”

Most memorable sporting moment?

Life should be full of great moments and everyday I am healthy, it's great! Of course some days are better than others! I rate my times racing in the Olympic games in Athens and Atlanta, being able to win a world title in mountain running in my home city of Wellington was another highlight - repaying some of the great support from thousands of people who came out to watch and who have helped my running career over many years.

Story

A 38-year-old New Zealander, Wyatt has a glittering curriculum vitae, including racing in Olympic track and marathon events before building a reputation as the world’s greatest mountain runner, recently winning the World Mountain Running Trophy for the sixth time.

As he approaches ‘the twilight’ of his 22-year career, his training has become more refined and tailored to suit his lifestyle.

“I used to have a coach when I raced on the track and at cross country,” Wyatt says, “but I prefer now to rely on experience built up over many years as well as information obtained from my heart rate monitor.”

“I have adapted my cross country training to suit mountain running, and to be honest, there probably isn’t anyone who knows mountain running better than I do!”

“I put the major focus on enjoyment rather than results,” says Wyatt. “Mountain running is less intense than other disciplines, there aren’t so many full-time athletes and it’s the thing I enjoy the most.”

He certainly seems to have enjoyed himself greatly in 2008, since he won most of the races he entered, including the thrilling victory at the World Mountain Running Trophy in Switzerland.

Taking the lead with just 500m to go, he beat second-placed Martin Toroitich of Uganda by just 13 seconds.

“I worked hard (for that victory) so it feels very satisfying,” he said afterwards.
