Suunto Ambassador Apa Sherpa, who has Climbed Mt. Everest 19 times, will sign autographs and discuss his new education project
Widely recognized as one of the world’s greatest living mountaineers, Suunto Ambassador Apa Sherpa will make an appearance at this year’s Winter Outdoor Retailer. Apa Sherpa will be signing autographs from 11am to 12pm on Thursday, January 21 and Friday, January 22 at the Suunto Booth (19015).
Apa Sherpa, who is sponsored by Suunto, has reached the top of Mount Everest a record 19 times and is trying to push the record to 20 this spring. Using his Suunto to make the summit, Apa has led teams up Everest with amazing success, both in reaching the top and keeping people safe.
“It’s an incredible opportunity to have a climber of this magnitude come to the show and be part of the Suunto Team,” says Suunto Vice President and Business Director Matt Kaplan.
Apa will also discuss his new endeavor to improve the lives of young children in his home village of Thame. This summer he will travel to his former home village near the Base Camp of Mt. Everest. The Apa Sherpa Foundation, with Suunto’s help, will construct stock and organize a library for the people of Thame.
Despite his success, Apa says he would give up his climbing records for a good education and a career as a medical doctor. By working together, Suunto and the Apa Sherpa Foundation strives to provide a solid education for the children of Thame.
