The Sports Center at Chelsea Piers to use Suunto HR Monitors for Training Classes

Suunto Fitness SolutionThe Chelsea Piers Sports & Entertainment Complex is teaming up with one of the world’s leading precision sports instrument manufacturers, Finland based Suunto. Chelsea Piers is adding the Suunto Fitness Solution to its exercise classes at their acclaimed Sports Center. Suunto’s Fitness Solution tracks the heart rates of each individual and projects real-time results on a giant screen, allowing trainers and participants to monitor their workout. The training tool is now used in all spinning classes and works with any Suunto ANT heart rate belt.

“It’s a fantastic tool that can improve training immensely,” says Group Fitness Director, John Boyd. “It’s great to have in our classes so we can better track progress and effort of each individual and provide them with immediate feedback.”

The Fitness Solution is designed for daily use in group exercise and cardio classes and can show up to 72 club members’ heart rates simultaneously in real-time. It also generates personal performance reports that are emailed to each participant. “In addition to using the technology in our spin classes, we will also employ the Suunto Fitness Solution in our triathlon program,” adds Greta Wagner, Sports Center General Manager. “Our triathletes are some of the best in the country and are excited to start monitoring their heart rates during their workouts.”

In full day mode, the Suunto Fitness Solution automatically records and generates reports for anyone logged into the system as long as they are within range of the USB receiver – up to 300 feet.

The Fitness Solution is also a real-time tool that can prevent over and under training. By using the participant’s individual heart rate, training zones can be precisely determined, instead of being estimated by the participant or trainer.  The Suunto heart rate monitor can tell participants what percentage of max heart rate each individual is achieving and prevent over-exertion.

“It’s great to partner up with such a premier club,” says Suunto Business Director and Vice President Matt Kaplan. “Our training technology and their facility are a perfect match.”
