Why can’t I sync or pair my Suunto watch and Suunto app for Android?

Note: This article applies for Suunto 3 Fitness, Suunto 9 and Suunto Spartan Collection watches.

Please find troubleshooting steps for the most common connectivity issues below. Verify after every step if the connection issue was resolved. If not proceed with the subsequent tips.

We continuously develop the Suunto app and frequently release updates. Ensure you have the latest app version installed from Google Play Store (Myapp or other).

 

Your watch is not shown in the list of devices available for pairing:

On your watch:

  1. Check that your watch is not paired with another phone or another mobile app e.g. Suunto Movescount App. Go to Settings > Connectivity > Paired devices. If MobileApp is listed, press the middle button and choose Forget.
  2. Ensure Airplane mode is turned off: Settings > Connectivity > Airplane mode.


  3. Make sure Discovery is enabled: Settings > Connectivity > Discovery.


On your phone:

  1. If you have Suunto Movescount app installed on your phone, unpair your watch and uninstall the app:
    a. Forget your watch in Movescount app
    b. Forget your watch in the Bluetooth settings of your mobile device.
    c. Uninstall Movescount app from your phone

Suunto app shows that pairing failed, however, your watch and phone are connected:

On your watch:

  1. Forget Suunto app: Open Settings > Connectivity > Paired devices on your watch. Select MobileApp, press the middle button and choose Forget.

On your phone:

  1. Unpair your watch from your phone's Bluetooth: Open the Bluetooth settings in the Android Settings menu, select your watch in the list of Paired devices. Tab the cog symbol, then select Unpair.
  2. Restart your mobile device.

 

The Suunto app shows that no watch is connected:

 On your phone:

  1. If you have Suunto Movescount app installed on your phone, unpair your watch and uninstall the app:
    a. Forget your watch in Movescount app
    b. Forget your watch in the Bluetooth settings of your mobile device.
    c. Uninstall Movescount app from your phone

On your watch:

  1. Check that your watch is not paired with another phone or another mobile app e.g. Suunto Movescount App. Go to Settings > Connectivity > Paired devices. If MobileApp is listed, press the middle button and choose Forget.

 

Additional troubleshooting steps:

Verify after every step if the connection issue was resolved. If not proceed with the subsequent tips:

  1. Restart your mobile device.
  2. Reset the Bluetooth connection: Turn your phone’s Bluetooth off, wait for a few seconds and activate it again.
  3. Close Suunto app completely by force stopping the app from your phone’s settings menu. On Samsung Galaxy devices for example go to Settings > Apps > Suunto app and tap Force stop.

In case the mentioned tips did not resolve the issue, reset the connection between your watch and the app:

  1. Open Suunto app and tap the “watch” icon in the top corner to open the watch view.

  2. Open the settings menu in the upper right corner and open Manage connection.

  3. Tap Forget.

  4. Make sure that your watch is unpaired from your phone’s Bluetooth. Open the settings menu of your mobile device, go to Bluetooth and remove your watch from the list by tapping the cog symbol to the right side of the watch name and select Unpair.
  5. Restart your mobile device.
  6. Make sure that Suunto App is unpaired from your watch: Open Settings > Connectivity > Paired devices. If Mobile App is listed, select Forget.
  7. After this, pair your watch again as if you were connecting for the first time. Syncing and other actions should work as normal once pairing is completed.
