Every Strap Helps Save Sharks
Millions of sharks are lost each year to commercial fishing, many just for their fins. Suunto, in partnership with Project Hiu, is giving you a way to help fight back. For every “Green Glow” strap sold from June through December 2025, we’ll donate €10 to the project, which works to keep shark fishing boats from the water by empowering Indonesian fishermen with sustainable income alternatives. Preventing a single boat from fishing for one month can save up to 100 sharks.
A Partnership to Protect Our Oceans
The world’s shark and ray populations are in crisis, with a staggering 71% decline recorded in the last 50 years. As divers and explorers, it’s our responsibility to protect the oceans we love. That’s why Suunto is proud to partner with Project Hiu, a nonprofit that’s taking a revolutionary approach to shark conservation where it's needed most: Indonesia, one of the world’s largest centers of shark fishing.
Founded by marine advocate Madison Stewart (“Shark Girl”), Project Hiu operates on a simple, effective principle: empowerment, not blame. Instead of criminalizing fishermen, the project addresses the root causes of shark exploitation: poverty and lack of alternatives. Project Hiu works hand-in-hand with local communities to foster a more sustainable economy that prioritizes the preservation of marine life.
Through Project Hiu, former shark fishermen are given opportunities in eco-tourism and education, transforming their relationship with the ocean and turning them from hunters into custodians. It’s a holistic model that improves conditions both above and below the surface. With our new “Green Glow” strap, you’ll be a part of this wave of change!
