Possible optical heart rate issues with version 2.39.20

Our latest software update (version 2.39.20) for Suunto Race, Suunto Race S, and Suunto Vertical watches has unfortunately introduced an issue for some users, causing the optical heart rate sensor to stop working.

How to check if your watch is affected

  1. Take off your watch.
  2. Open the Heart rate widget.
  3. Turn your watch around.
  4. Place your finger or hand over the center sensors (five rectangles).
  5. Do you see a green LED light blinking?

Yes? Great! Your optical heart rate is working as expected—no further action is needed.

No? Your watch may be affected, which could also impact sleep tracking. Follow these steps to restore functionality:

How to fix the issue

  1. Press and hold the top button for 12 seconds to reboot the device.
  2. Sync your watch again with the Suunto app.

This should restore your optical heart rate sensor.

Still not working?

If rebooting your watch as instructed above does not resolve the issue, you can revert your Suunto Race, Suunto Race S, or Suunto Vertical to the previous software version and continue using it without interruptions until the next update.

Instructions:

  1. Sync your watch with the Suunto app: Open the app on your phone and click on the watch symbol on top left to trigger sync. Wait until the green check mark for a complete sync appears.
  2. Press the settings icon on top right and select ‘Watch update’.
  3. Manually copy and paste the correct link below into Safari browser (iOS) or Firefox (Android) on your phone.

  5. Once the download is ready, the Suunto app will prompt you to continue on your watch.
  6. Go to the settings on your watch: ‘Settings’ -> ‘General’ -> ‘Software update’
  7. After updating, go back to the Suunto app and turn off auto updates to avoid your watch updating back to version 2.39.20: Select watch icon on top left -> Select setting symbol on top right -> switch the 'Enable automatic updates' toggle off
