What should I do if I have issues with the rechargeable battery of my Suunto product?

If you are experiencing issues that might be related to the battery or cable malfunctioning, please try the troubleshooting suggestions below before considering sending the watch or dive computer to one of our service centers.

  • Battery consumption is significantly too high (especially in daily use): your watches battery level decreases visibly during the day, and battery life is significantly lower than your watch’s specifications, or
  • Your watch turns off when the battery indicator still shows enough battery remaining.

 

    • If you are using a Suunto 3, Suunto 5, Suunto 5 Peak, Suunto 9, Suunto 9 Baro, Suunto 9 Peak or Suunto 9 Peak Pro make sure you don’t have backlight permanently on. To check, press and hold the middle button to get the backlight toggle and make sure it’s off (on Suunto 9 Peak Pro: scroll down from the main watch face and check the backlight toggle from the list).
    • Once that's checked, you can let the watch battery run out completely, and when the watch is completely off plug it via the charging cable and an appropriate charging outlet and let it recharge fully. Once it’s fully recharged, perform a full factory reset.

  • Your watch won’t wake up/won’t charge when connected to power with the USB cable. This might indicate a variety of issues.

 

    • The power outlet, charger or USB port does not provide sufficient power, or be defective. Make sure that you are using a USB wall charger/power bank that is powerful enough – they should deliver at least 0.5 amperes at 5 volts, or that you are using a USB+ charging port on laptops (identified by a lightning symbol). Also, if you use a USB port on a laptop, make sure that you are not using a USB hub, that you try multiple ports, and that the computer is on and active throughout the charging process. Please note that it may take up to 20 minutes to wake up a watch with a fully depleted battery depending on the charging source.
    • Make sure the charging contacts on the wrist unit and charging pins on the cable are not visibly dirty, blocked, or visibly wet from sweat or water.
    • The cable itself might be damaged or not working correctly. This is usually far more likely than an issue with the watch itself. If possible, test with another cable to verify this (make sure to always use Suunto original charging cables). If a new cable works correctly, only the cable should be replaced. NOTE: usb cables have a limited one year warranty. If your cable is less than one year old and you have a proof of purchase/receipt for it, we can ship you a replacement under warranty.   • The battery life of your watch has lost a bit of capacity. Li-ion batteries lose capacity over time, and this is normal, especially after more than one year or 300 charging cycles. NOTE: rechargeable batteries have a limited one year warranty for issues related to slight loss of capacity. Products older than one year with slight loss of capacity will not be handled in warranty
